1) There are many security companies these days that offer bodyguarding services who take a minimum wage uniformed security guard and put him in a suit and give him a concealed weapon. Make sure that you are getting what you pay for.

2) We do not provide a uniform security guard service, but if after our consultation, that is what we feel you need, we will recommend an agency that will provide you with quality service and people, and not just warm bodies that hopefully will stay awake at night. Often our high threat level protection is needed at first, and later we turn the long term security over to one of our uniform service strategic partners.
3) There are people out there who are providing bodyguarding service illegally and without the proper licensing and insurance required by law. It is your life that is at stake. 4) With all due respect to our law enforcement officers, they are not trained protection professionals. Their training and instincts are just the opposite of what makes a good protection operative. Law enforcement is trained to go after the bad guy. Protection specialists are trained to keep the principal safe and get him or her out of harms way. Normal law enforcement training gives them the ability to perform low threat security guard service, not professional high threat level protection.
Remember as well that many jurisdictions do not cover their off duty officers with appropriate liability insurance or workman's compensation coverage while performing these types of services. That liability falls directly on you the client and your estate assets.
Believe it or not, in some jurisdictions, it is not legal for law enforcement officers to provide off duty security services, but they do it anyway.
Statutorily, in Florida, law enforcement officers have a conflict of interest. Consider the recent events here in Palm Beach County where 4 off duty policemen were hired to guard a move of millions of dollars in jewelry and other valuables. A felony in progress nearby dictates that all 4 of those "off duty" officers abandon the client and the valuables and go after the fleeing felon. You can imagine the anger of the client. The conflict is that legally in Florida, "off duty" law enforcement officers are never "off duty", just temporarily off the clock. At any time the officer sees a crime, he is suddenly "on duty". Don't be left high and dry and unprotected.
